Personal Air Pollution Monitor

Cities are growing and becoming more congested and, unless there is radical change, so will air pollution.
This project visualises a future where checking for pollution becomes as important to our daily lives as checking the traffic or weather. It follows the aesthetic development of a hand-held pollution tracker.
Brief
This project focuses mostly on aesthetic development. The brief was to design a handheld electronic device and then produce an appearance model, paying careful attention to Colour, Material and Finish.
Forming by Hand
Developing the form of the device took place as much in the prototyping stage as the sketch development. Working mostly with hand tools, the organic form of the device was shaped from a dense polyurethane foam.
Finishing Touches
The final model was finished with a stencilled gloss logo. The finishing touch, a sulphate blue lanyard and magnetic clasp to complement the copper and stone finish.
