Storm Stool

Steamed Plywood Stool

Storm stool is a furniture concept examining the idea of "technical" and "biological" nutrients.
Context
This project was inspired by the ideas set out in Michael Braungart and William McDonough's book Cradle to Cradle. it proposes a model of Biological Nutrients  (those that come from nature and can return to nature completely) and Technical Nutrients (those that are manmade and can be recycled and reused indefinitely). Understanding these cycles of nutrients, and crucially not mixing the streams, is one key to sustainable consumption.
Inspiration
The stool was inspired by ocean storms, swirling surfaces and marine hues that give both a sense of strength and fluidity in the form.
The wooden panels are designed to use completely biodegradable combinations of materials, (plywood, degradable adhesives, Water based natural dyes and linseed oils). The fixtures and joints are made from zinc and steel screws and L brackets, that resist corrosion and can be recycled nearly indefinitely.
